Joao Cancelo’s time at Manchester City could soon end as a whole host of clubs are lining up to sign him. As per British and Italian media, AC Milan are linked with Manchester City right-back Joao Cancelo.

The Portugal international joined Manchester City from Juventus for a fee in the region of 65 million euros in August 2019. His contract expires in the summer of 2027.

The right-back has found the back of the net on two occasions and picked up five assists in 26 matches for Manchester City this season across various competitions.

He is considered to be one of the best right-backs in Portugal. As a member of Portugal national football team, Cancelo won 41 caps and he scored seven goals.

The Italian giants are delving into the transfer market for an experienced right-back and have done well to identify the 28-year-old as a potential target.

Stefano Pioli is a firm fan of Manchester City right-back and Milan could make a move for the player if the financial aspect makes sense.

Someone with Cancelo’s skillset and potential will no doubt be an excellent signing for Stefano Pioli.

The former Juventus man can also play as a full-back, offering Pioli a different option should he change his formation at San Siro Stadium. His arrival would give Milan some much needed tactical flexibility.

According to the report, “Portugal defender Joao Cancelo’s situation at Manchester City is attracting interest from other clubs. The right-back is not in favour with manager Pep Guardiola at City at present. He has been in and out of the team, especially since the World Cup break. Per The Sun, AC Milan are assessing whether a deal to sign Cancelo is possible. The defender does have a contract that runs until 2027, given he recently renewed his deal. However, if he is continually on the bench at City, he may want to move on for regular football.”

AC Milan have to fork out a huge transfer fee if they are genuinely interested in the Portugal international.

The Citizens will be ready to part ways with the right-back should the right offer arrives.

A right-back of Cancelo’s technical quality will undeniably be a decent coup for Milan if they can get him for a fair price.

Stylistically, he would be a great fit in Milan.
