Everton considering a move for Juventus centre-back Federico Gatti
Everton Football Club is said to be exploring the possibility of signing Juventus’ 24-year-old center-back Federico Gatti during the upcoming transfer window. The team is reportedly looking to revamp its squad after a lackluster performance in the current season. Rumors suggest that Yerry Mina, who is currently earning £120,000 per week, and Conor Coady, the Wolves loanee, may not be retained for the following season. Gatti, who has played 15 games for Juventus this season and two games for the Italian national team, could provide the much-needed cover in defense for Everton. However, securing his services may come at a hefty price of around £26.3m.
According to reports by SerieB News, Everton and West Ham United are both considering a move for Gatti this summer. Juventus signed Gatti for €7.5m in January 2022 and loaned him back to Serie B club Frosinone for the rest of the season. Though he was the best defender in the division last season, he has struggled to break into Juve’s starting XI since his return from the loan spell. As a result, Gatti is reportedly open to leaving Allianz Stadium.
Mina, who has made just three Premier League appearances for Everton this season due to injury, may not see his contract extended beyond this season. Similarly, Coady may also not be retained by the club, with manager Sean Dyche reportedly unimpressed with his performance. Dyche has put Michael Keane ahead of Coady in the pecking order since his arrival at the club in January. However, the team’s decision on Coady’s future will depend on their Premier League survival, with the club delaying their decision until the end of the season.
World Football Rumours
Dyche will first focus on avoiding relegation before considering a big-money offer for Gatti. Everton will have to put all their efforts into staying in the Premier League before considering overhauling their squad, starting with the signing of Gatti. It remains to be seen whether Everton will meet Gatti’s hefty price tag in the upcoming transfer window.
