The Southampton defensive midfielder has been identified as one of the club’s potential targets as Erik ten Hag looks to add more reinforcements in the midfield unit. Reports in the British media claim that Manchester United have joined the hunt for Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia.

The Belgium international joined Southampton from Manchester City for a fee in the region of 12.3 million euros in July 2022. His current deal runs out in the summer of 2027.

The defensive midfielder has featured in 20 matches for Southampton this term, netting one goal and providing one assist in all competitions.

Romeo Lavia is one of the brightest talents across Europe. He has represented Belgium at Under-15, Under-16, Under-19 and Under-21 level, winning 16 caps and scoring 3 goals.

The 19-year-old has the potential to become a top-class defensive midfielder.

His impressive performances this season have apparently caught the eye of some of Europe’s big clubs.

Lavia is being seen as an alternative, especially if he continues to grow as a player.”

Southampton are not in a position where they need to sell and would like to keep hold of the midfielder, but right offer may force the club to consider a deal.

The English giants are showing interest in signing defensive midfielder, but will have to dig deep to land him.

Good signing for Manchester United?

Undoubtedly, he would be a fantastic recruit for United.

Of course, the 19-year-old is not going to become a regular for Manchester United straightaway, but working under Ten Hag would make him a better player.

It will be interesting to see if Manchester United are willing to pay the asking price for Lavia.
