It is pretty evident that Aston Villa is set to strengthen the midfield in the winter transfer window. The latest update from England suggests that Aston Villa are interested in Arsenal defensive midfielder Mohamed Elneny.

Arsenal spent 12.5 million euros to sign the Egypt international from Basel in the winter of 2016. The 30-year-old has a valid contract with Arsenal until June 2023. (Arsenal have option for one more year)

The defensive midfielder has made seven appearances for Arsenal but is yet to score or register an assist for them this season across all fronts.

He is considered to be one of the best midfielders in Egypt. Elneny has also left his mark at the international stage after netting 8 goals in 91 senior appearances for the Egypt national team.

The Premier League side need to add more depth to their midfield and the 30-year-old would be a good signing. Elneny is vastly experienced, is a dependable figure, and would add depth to the Aston Villa squad.
