Leeds United keen to land Dortmund left-back Raphael Guerreiro
The defensive department of the Leeds squad needs quality additions this summer. It’s claimed by British media that Leeds United are keen to land Borussia Dortmund left-back Raphael Guerreiro.
The Portugal international joined Borussia Dortmund from Lorient for a fee in the region of 12 million euros in 2016. His contract is due to expire at the end of the season.
The left-back has managed 16 goal contributions across all competitions in the ongoing campaign.
He is considered to be one of the best left-backs in Portugal. As a member of Portugal national football team, Guerreiro won 61 caps and he scored four goals.
Raphael Guerreiro will be high in demand this summer, with him having enjoyed a sublime season for Borussia Dortmund this term.
The Whites have earmarked Borussia Dortmund left-back as their target, with Javi Gracia being a ‘huge admirer’ of the player.
Someone with Guerreiro’s skillset and potential will no doubt be an excellent signing for Leeds United boss.
Leeds United are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.
The former Lorient man will offer the Leeds boss the freedom to be more flexible with his formations, tactics and team selections.
World Football Rumours
According to the report, “Leeds United are eyeing Borussia Dortmund winger Raphael Guerreiro. Football Insider reports Leeds are showing serious interest in Guerreiro, who’s contract expires in June. Negotiations between Guerreiro and Dortmund over a new deal have stalled and Leeds are following the situation closely. Guerreiro has scored four goals and provided nine assists in 26 competitive games for Dortmund this season.”
A club with Leeds United’s resources should be able to afford him easily.
Good signing for Leeds United?
Nevertheless, Guerreiro stands as an excellent option for Leeds United.
He has all the skillset required to be a success story at Leeds. Therefore, it makes sense for Javi Gracia to step up his attempts to bring the Portugal left-back to Premier League side.
If Javi Gracia sees him as the right man for his side, Leeds United should quickly make a move to fend off interest from other clubs.
It will be interesting to see whether Leeds United will make their move during the summer transfer window.
