The English club have been monitoring young centre-backs in the past few months. Reports in the British media claim that Liverpool are linked with Sporting CP centre-back Goncalo Inacio.

The 21-year-old centre-back has played all his life at Sporting. He has made his way through the youth system at the Portuguese club. His current deal runs out in the summer of 2026.

The centre-back has found the back of the net on two occasions and picked up two assists in 32 matches this season across various competitions.

The 21-year-old has been touted as one of the brightest young prospects in Portugal. He has represented Portugal at Under-16, Under-17, Under-18, Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 level, winning 18 caps and scoring one goal.

According to the report, “Liverpool posted a scout to watch a promising centre-back Goncalo Inacio in Portugal last weekend. Correio da Manha says the Reds are keeping tabs on Sporting Lisbon defender Inacio. A scout was present as he turned out against Porto on Sunday – a match that away team Porto won 2-1. The report also claims that following the visit, Liverpool ‘could’ now make a move for the Inacio at the end of the season.”

The 21-year-old is currently under contract until 2025. In that regard, Sporting are not in a position where they have to sell. But if they choose to, they are also in a very strong position to set a hefty price tag.

The Reds are showing interest in signing centre-back, but will have to dig deep to land him.

Good signing for Liverpool?

Undoubtedly, he would be a fantastic recruit for Liverpool.

Goncalo Inacio is still quite young and he will only get better with experience. He would be a good long term investment for Liverpool.

Stylistically, he would be a great fit at Anfield.

It will be interesting to see if Liverpool can beat their rivals to the centre-back’s signature.
