Manchester United looking to sign Denzel Dumfries

The defensive department of the Manchester United squad needs quality additions this summer. As per British media, Manchester United are looking to sign Inter right-back Denzel Dumfries.

Inter spent 14.25 million euros to sign the Netherlands international from PSV in the summer of 2021. He has two years left on his current contract which expires in 2025.

The right-back has found the back of the net on 2 occasions and picked up 6 assists in 31 matches for Inter this season across various competitions.

The 26-year-old is considered to be the best right-back in Netherlands. His record for Netherlands is also impressive. Dumfries has scored 6 goals in 42 matches for Netherlands at senior level.

Denzel Dumfries is set to be a man in demand in the summer transfer window, with a host of clubs queuing up to pursue his signature.

Manchester United are delving into the transfer market for an experienced right-back and have done well to identify the 26-year-old as a potential target. Erik ten Hag is a firm fan of Inter right-back and Manchester United could make a move for the player if the financial aspect makes sense.

Someone with Denzel Dumfries’s skillset will undoubtedly add more quality to Ten Hag‘s defense and midfield.

The Red Devils will have funds to spend in the market and it will be interesting to see how they approach the summer transfer window.

Denzel Dumfries is a skilled right-back who can make a difference at both ends of the pitch. The former PSV man has the quality and the experience to make an immediate impact.

World Football Rumours

According to the report, “Manchester United are set to reignite their interest in long-term target Denzel Dumfries. That is according to Football Insider, who report that United boss Erik ten Hag remains a “huge fan” of Inter Milan star Dumfries. The Red Devils tried to sign the full-back during the January transfer window but couldn’t raise the necessary funds. The Manchester giants have received a major transfer boost with Chelsea unlikely to persist on their long-term pursuit of the Netherlands international after signing Malo Gusto. And Inter’s financial troubles could lead to a cut-price deal for the 26-year-old. However, Dumfries still won’t come cheap as he may cost a fee in the region of £40-50million.”

Manchester United are showing interest in signing right-back, but will have to dig deep to land him.

The Italian giants would be wise to keep the Netherlands international, but if they do let him go expect it to be for a hefty sum.

Should Manchester United pursue Denzel Dumfries?

The Red Devils must improve their defensive options and the signing of Dumfries would be a step in the right direction.

Denzel Dumfries has all the skillset required to be a success story at Old Trafford. Therefore, it makes sense for Erik ten Hag to step up his attempts to bring the Netherlands right-back to Premier League side.

Stylistically, he would be a great fit in Manchester.

How strong that interest is and whether United will make a move remains to be seen but it is certainly one worth keeping an eye on.
