Monaco centre-back Benoit Badiashile in advanced negotiations with Chelsea

Chelsea are reportedly keeping a close eye on many centre-backs across the Europe. According to multiple reports emanating from England, Monaco centre-back Benoit Badiashile is in advanced negotiations with Chelsea.

Chelsea FC

The 21-year-old has come through the youth ranks of Monaco and has successfully managed to establish himself as a key member of their senior team. His contract at Monaco is set to expire at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.

The centre-back has found the back of the net on two occasions in 16 matches for Monaco this season across various competitions.

The 21-year-old has been touted as one of the brightest young prospects in France. Badiashile has represented France at Under-16, Under-17, Under-18, Under-19 and Under-21 level, winning 45 caps, before making his senior international debut in September 2022. As a member of France national football team, Badiashile won two caps.

His impressive performances this season have apparently caught the eye of some of Europe’s big clubs.

Graham Potter wants to sign a new centre-back and Badiashile is one of the names at the top of his wishlist. The France international is thought to perfectly fit the profile of defensive player Potter wants to target in the winter transfer window.

The Blues manager will reportedly be handed a huge transfer kitty this winter and the Monaco centre-back is thought to be among his priorities.

The France international heavily relies on his ability to read the game. It is coupled with his sensible tackling and an excellent sense of positioning, allowing him to repel most of the danger in the defensive third. His versatile nature can help the manager to be more flexible with the formations.

World Football Rumours

According to the report, “Chelsea are continuing negotiations with Monaco over a £35m deal for defender Benoit Badiashile. The 21-year-old left-sided centre back can fit into a three or four-man defence and would give manager Graham Potter more tactical flexibility, says the Daily Mail. Badiashile was the subject of a bid from Newcastle United earlier in the year but picked up an injury after talks were initiated and Eddie Howe’s side moved on to other targets and ultimately reverted back to signing Sven Botman.”

A big money bid from Chelsea could tempt Monaco into selling their prized asset.

Monaco are preparing to sell their centre-back should they receive a massive offer for him.

Good signing for Chelsea?

If Chelsea and Potter are seriously considering a centre-back, Badiashile could also prove to be a smart option.

It is smart from the club to invest in younger players, rather than splashing out big money on experienced players with no resale value.

Benoit Badiashile has all the skillset required to be a success story at Chelsea. Therefore, it makes sense for Graham Potter to step up his attempts to bring the French centre-back to Premier League side.

If Graham Potter sees him as the right man for his side, the Blues should quickly make a move to fend off interest from other clubs.
