Newcastle are reportedly keeping a close eye on many midfielders across the Europe. According to the football transfer rumours in British media, Newcastle United are pushing to sign Chelsea midfielder Jorginho.

The Italy international was signed by Chelsea in July 2018 from Napoli for a fee of 57 million euros. He has a contract until 2023 with the club.

The midfielder has banged in three goals in 20 matches for Chelsea this term on all fronts.

The 31-year-old is considered to be one of the best midfielders in Italy. As a member of Italy national football team, Jorginho won 46 caps and he scored 5 goals.

Eddie Howe is eager to add a midfielder to the squad. He wants an experienced player that can be a leader on and off the pitch for him. Howe is a known admirer of the player and is reportedly keen on the idea of bringing him this winter.

The Magpies are in the market for just a handful of statement signings who can improve the first-team.

The 31-year-old Italy international is out of contract in the summer. Barcelona are also interested in Jorginho, with his agent having met Nou Camp officials in Spain last month. Newcastle have also discussed Leicester’s Youri Tielemans and Nice’s Khephren Thuram, the brother of France forward Marcus and son of legendary defender Lilian.”

Newcastle will have to come up with the right proposal to convince Jorginho to join the club.

The Blues will not be able to demand a significant fee for Jorginho since his current deal is set to expire in 2023.

If Jorginho is available for the right price, then he could be a clever acquisition for Newcastle.

A midfielder of Jorginho’s ceiling will be a massive addition to Newcastle squad as he will not only improve the overall quality of Eddie Howe’s starting XI but also add some stability and variety to his midfield department.

Stylistically, he would be a great fit in Newcastle.
