Chelsea frontrunners to land Bayern star Benjamin Pavard
When Chelsea set their eyes on a player, more often than not, they force their way into getting him. This time they have set their sights on Benjamin Pavard, and the club are working hard to cut a deal with Bayern for the right-back. If a report from TEAMtalk is to be believed, Chelsea are frontrunners to land Bayern right-back Benjamin Pavard.
The France international was signed by Bayern in July 2019 from VfB Stuttgart for a fee of 35 million euros. He has a contract until 2024 with the club.
The right-back has managed 7 goal contributions across all competitions in the ongoing campaign.
He is considered to be one of the best right-backs in France. Pavard has also left his mark at the international stage after netting two goals in 47 senior appearances for the France national team.
His performances have seen him become the target of many European clubs including Chelsea.
Graham Potter is eager to add a right-back to the squad. He wants an experienced player that can be a leader on and off the pitch for him. Someone with Pavard’s skillset will undoubtedly add more quality to Graham Potter‘s defense.
Chelsea are desperate to make an impact in the summer transfer window.
The former VfB Stuttgart man is a very comfortable defender and has qualities which would improve the Chelsea’s backline. His versatile nature can help the manager to be more flexible with the formations.
World Football Rumours
According to the report, “Pavard has a ‘top-class’ offer on the table from Chelsea. Thanks to their financial might they can offer him more money in wages than Bayern. Man Utd have yet to send a contract proposal to the defender, which puts Chelsea ahead of them in the race for his services right now. Of course, the Blues would still need to reach a transfer agreement with Bayern before completing a deal. Florian Plettenberg, who regularly covers Bayern for Sky Sport Germany, believes it is ’50-50′ whether Pavard leaves this summer or renews his contract in Bavaria. This is because Bayern will not let him run down his contract and depart on a free next summer.”
Chelsea will have to come up with the right proposal to convince Pavard to join the club.
The German giants are eager to keep the right-back beyond the current campaign, but the player may look to take the next step in his career.
Good signing for Chelsea?
The right-back is in the peak of his career right now and he might want to prove his quality in the Premier League if an opportunity comes his way.
All in all, Pavard will be an ideal choice for Potter as he ticks all the right boxes in terms of what he demands from his defenders.
Stylistically, he would be a great fit at Stamford Bridge.
It will be interesting to see whether Chelsea will make their move during the summer transfer window.
