Over the past couple of weeks, there has been intense speculation over the future of Piero Hincapie at BayArena. It’s claimed by German media that Chelsea have submited bid for Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Piero Hincapie.
The Ecuador international only joined Bayer from Talleres in 2021 for 6.35 million euros and his contract runs to June 2026.
The centre-back has featured in 18 matches for Bayer this term, netting one goal in all competitions.
The 20-year-old has been touted as one of the brightest young prospects in Ecuador. Piero Hincapie has represented Ecuador at Under-17, winning 11 caps, before making his senior international debut in June 2021. As a member of Ecuador national football team, Hincapie won 24 caps and he scored one goal.
His performances have seen him become the target of many European clubs including Chelsea.
Piero Hincapie has been identified as one of the key targets to improve the defensive department.
The Ecuador international is thought to perfectly fit the profile of defensive player Graham Potter wants to target in the winter transfer window.
Someone with Piero Hincapie’s skillset and potential will no doubt be an excellent signing for Chelsea boss Graham Potter. The former Talleres man will add a new dimension to Chelsea’s defense.
World Football Rumours
According to the report, “Chelsea have launched a bid for Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie. Sky Deutschland says Chelsea have made a €30m offer for Hincapie ahead of the January market. Chelsea have turned to Hincapie after being frustrated by RB Leipzig’s €100m valuation for Josko Gvardiol. The 20 year-old Ecuador international has a deal with Bayer to 2026. The youngster was part of his country’s World Cup campaign.”
The Blues are showing interest in signing centre-back, but will have to dig deep to land him. Bayer 04 are preparing to sell their centre-back should they receive a massive offer for him.
Piero Hincapie ideal fit for Chelsea?
If Chelsea and Graham Potter are seriously considering a centre-back, Hincapie could also prove to be a smart option.
It is smart from the club to invest in younger players, rather than splashing out big money on experienced players with no resale value.
Piero Hincapie has all the skillset required to be a success story at Stamford Bridge. Therefore, it makes sense for Potter to step up his attempts to bring the centre-back to Premier League side.
If Potter sees him as the right man for his side, Chelsea should quickly make a move to fend off interest from other clubs.
