Chelsea hoping to sign Ecuador international: A good option for Graham Potter?

It’s no secret that Chelsea are interested in Brighton and Hove Albion’s midfielder Moises Caicedo. But who isn’t? According to multiple reports emanating from England, Chelsea are hoping to sign Ecuador international Moises Caicedo.

Brighton and Hove Albion FC

The Ecuador international joined Brighton and Hove Albion from Independiente del Valle for a fee in the region of 5 million euros in 2020. His contract expires in the summer of 2025.

In 21 appearances this season, Caicedo has managed to score one goal and contributed with one assist.

The 21-year-old has been touted as one of the brightest young prospects in Ecuador. Caicedo has left his mark at the international stage after netting three goals in 28 senior appearances for the Ecuador national team.

Moises Caicedo is enjoying an excellent season so far. His performances have seen him become the target of many Premier League clubs including Chelsea.

He has been identified as one of the key targets to improve the midfield department. Graham Potter is a long term admirer of Caicedo and believes he can get the most out of the Ecuador international.

The former Independiente del Valle man would provide a good variety to Chelsea’s midfield.

World Football Rumours

According to the report, “Chelsea are readying a new bid for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo. The Blues have already failed with one offer for the Ecuador international. Caicedo has been the subject of strong interest from Chelsea and Liverpool as the underperforming sides seek to strengthen the centre of their respective midfields. Chelsea have tested Brighton with an initial offer of £55million and the Blues are now considering following that up with an improved bid for the midfield star. Graham Potter’s side are hoping to reinforce their midfield department this month and have identified Brighton’s Ecuador international as a potential option, says the Daily Mail. The Blues boss was the manager who signed Caicedo for Brighton two years ago and is keen on having a reunion with the midfielder at Stamford Bridge.”

It would take a huge offer from Chelsea to prise the 21-year-old midfielder from Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Seagulls would be wise to keep the Ecuador international, but if they do let him go expect it to be for a hefty sum.

Should Chelsea pursue Moises Caicedo?

If Chelsea and Potter are seriously considering a midfielder, Caicedo could also prove to be a smart option.

It is smart from the club to invest in younger players, rather than splashing out big money on experienced players with no resale value.

All in all, Caicedo will be an ideal choice for Potter as he ticks all the right boxes in terms of what he demands from his midfielders.

Stylistically, he would be a great fit at Stamford Bridge.

The ball is in Chelsea’s court and they need to take a decision on signing Caicedo.
